Physiological birth
Many families, during pregnancy, anticipate and want a physiological labour and birth, expecting their caregivers to provide safe care to enable this. Of course, skilled birth attendance also requires a watchful eye to discern whether pathology is present and to take action as necessary (with the mother’s consent) - and in the event of further action, intervention or medical care, this should be done respectfully and with compassion.
Facilitating physiological labour and birth across the ‘risk’ spectrum has been a particular clinical, research and teaching focus of mine - it has been the core subject of my PhD which can be found here and subsequent research. You can find insights regarding waterbirth, or ‘alternative’ physiological birth and the ASSET model by clicking the links highlighted in orange which include an array of publications and media, mostly free to access.
